Here we are again, substituting audacity for common sense and putting ourselves in harms way. We float up and down the river on a rickety old boat, rowed by slaves, and covered in the blood of slaughtered livestock which then runs into the river with the diced up carcasses. All this wile the city’s populace crowds the docks and enjoys a free afternoon’s entertainment.
It was so insane, it had to work, and it did. After only a few hours, the sea devils mustered their forces and attacked. Their losses are high, as are those among the ranks of the condemned, but our side had the advantage until the sea devils brought in their main game. Several powerful warrior, backed by some sort of unholy shaman, began to turn the tide, and it was time for us to shine. The fates smiled on us that day, and it seemed that we could do no wrong; Brave deeds were done, at one point i even chased a fleeing sea devil warrior into the river to prevent it’s escape, and even Badden’s imaginary dagger failed to mar the battle, and victory was ours.
The remaining crew turned the Reprisal to shore, and we arrived to a cheering crowd. Knarillas spots the Lady in the crowd, looking disappointed, and we think that it means we are now to high profile to be of use to her. we shall find out later i guess. The Reprisal’s survivors were given their freedom by the state, and a generous financial reward by Knarillas. We however were advised by Norbert that while the task was well done, the rest of the job remained – to track them back to their lair and finish them for good. Only then would we qualify for the emperors gold. We head to the inn that evening and endure the crowds wanting to meet us. Fame is so taxing!
We decide that we would head out the next day in a properly crewed Reprisal, but before then a quick trip to the lobster man was in order. There are discussions, negotiations, and even threats, but we don’t seem to get whatever it was we wanted from him. There are mentions of a cousin Cecil, black sheep of the family and possible smuggler, being behind the project and preventing any further activities. Disappointed, we head back to the Reprisal and set sail for calmer waters down river.
Several days pass, and we find many clues indicating we are on the right track. Finally Badden spots what appears to be a hidden cave, and we move in to investigate. Wading through the shallow water we disarm a net trap, but are set upon by a shark and some doughty warriors. We dispatch most of them, but one manages to flee. We give chase, heading into the sea devil lair.
Is it me or does everything smell of fish?
