That sea devil lair was quite an adventure. I remember just after we found the entrance, we scouted side passages and searched about, but the only way forward was ahead and into the water. We are attacked by a few minions, but we dispatched them with little issue. We ponder the impasse of a fully flooded corridor, but eventually Badden decides to take crocodile form and scout ahead. He engages and dispatches some more minions, but encounters stiffer resistance. He lures it back and we take it down, but not without injuries, the saint almost drowning at one point. We ponder turning the floating lamp into a flying carpet, but nothing pans out.
We follow the tunnels, past the flooded tunnel, and come to what appeared to be an abandoned underground structure of some kind. We meet more resistance, including some more warriors, and battle becomes heated till a voice from an adjoining room summons them back. We move in to discover a Sea Devil baron, a very large sea devil with 4 arms and an aura of power. He was sitting on a throne and was attended by a shaman, and more warriors.
He surprises us by speaking in common, and says to us that the gods are not dead, they are sleeping. Rather than talk to him we employ our backup negotiation technique and attack. A vicious melee ensues, and things look bad for us. In a bold move the Saint moves in to heal urik, who is taking a pounding, but the baron switches target to the saint and takes him down. We are all missing, it seems as if some unholy aura or curse is affecting us all. As the battle rages, the saint finally stabilizes on his last gasp of life, a miracle in an otherwise sad debacle.
We finally take out the shaman, and this enrages the baron who utters something about us not surviving to see nightfall, and moves over to his throne and pulls a lever so hard it snaps off. This seems to release some sort of flood gate, and the entire area starts to fill with water at an alarming rate. The last few sea devils are determined to make us pay, and the fighting is brutal. We forget about the saint lying on the floor in the corner and only the sound of him drowning reminds us of his helplessness.
With a final surge of teamwork we take out the baron and start retreating up the steep scree slope, grabbing the saint as we go. There are a few minions at the top, but a spectacular chaos bold form knarliss takes care of them. As we gasp for breath at the top, badden turns into an octopus and loots the flooded chambers below us.
When he returns, we decide to take a rest and recuperate as we look at the loot : a torc of strange metal, a marble sculpture of a human with a birds head, a shield shaped charm, and a bag marked property of house verdaan, which knarliss promptly destroys.
Rested and revived, the four of us decide to press on, realizing the boat may not wait for us for ever. We proceed down the corridor, until we come to a large cavern, with an exit on the far side. As we cross, whell that’s a whole other story!
